Charlie goes to the movie and falls in love with a girl on the screen. He goes to Keystone Studios to find her. He disrupts the shooting of a film, and a fire breaks out. Charlie is blamed, gets squirted with a firehose, and is shoved by the female star.。凶杀组探员约翰.霍布斯与搭档琼斯合作，将凶残的系列杀手绳之以法，并目睹此犯被处死的全过程。但在后来的办案过程中，他们又遇到类似的凶犯：同样的犯罪手法，虽然从心底里是不相信“鬼魂”的，但如果把面前的事情解释为有一种超自然的邪恶力量在控制着，一切就都“迎刃而解”了。但警长听了这些，只觉得好笑。得不到理解的约翰陷入孤立无援的地位，他已经证实了自己的设想，但不知该怎样对付那无处不在的邪恶力量……。
