人群熙攘的城市里，底层的小人物毫不起眼但人数众多，主人公小张就是小人物中的一员。小张是黑车司机，性格内向又有些自卑，沉默寡言，看起来老实憨厚.由于狭隘的成长环境，小张总是会显得有些呆滞,两只手无处安放地插在口袋里是他的标志动作。每天小张开着自己破旧的汽车去车站载客，晚上便回到出租屋内，住在隔壁的房东老太还时不时来催房租。谁也不知道小张是从哪里来，要到哪里去，他每天就这么生活着，平淡无奇。但是，平静的湖面下，却暗藏波涛。为了喜欢的姑娘，小张被人打晕在暗巷中。醒来后，却看见打人者的尸体倒在脚边，随后小张发现，尸体神秘失踪。那个人到底有没有死？晕倒后到底发生了什么？莫名其妙的流浪汉为什么会出现在这里？小张的身上究竟藏着怎样的秘密?真相只有一个答案，一切疑问都来自于人性与命运的纠葛......。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。1974年坝上腊月，知青帅红兵被分配给新上任的革委会大队长牛鲜花监管，喜爱文艺的牛鲜花欣赏帅红兵的才艺，对他处处加以保护，帅红兵的女友知青刘青因此怀恨在心。为了早日回城，帅红兵在一次事故中受重伤失去语言及思考能力，而其父母均被关在牛棚，牛鲜花毅然决定与帅红兵结婚，照顾其终生，刘青含恨回城。“四人帮”粉碎后，帅红兵父母平反，牛鲜花与帅红兵带一双女儿回城。离开话剧团下海经商的帅红兵同情刘青的不幸婚姻，二人终于又走到一起。离异的牛鲜花一人挑起家庭的重担，从摆街摊到经营水产品公司，终于在事业上获得成功，却与刘青和帅红兵的公司数次正面交锋……。
