故事发生在对越反击战前夕。新兵黄永亮（宝珣 饰）由于不服连长罗大江（穆怀虎 饰）管教，擅离训练场溜回家里。当军分区司令员的父亲（王憧 饰）闻讯，狠狠斥责了儿子的错误行为，责令其天黑前归队，姐姐越华（赵娜 饰）陪他回到营房。罗大江主动坦诚自己粗暴的工作方法不对，希望得得小黄的谅解，两人冰释前嫌。越华对罗大江的诚恳颇有好感，不久，两人相爱了。原来，越华是当年永亮妈（袁霞 饰）在抗法医疗队时收养的父母双亡的越南姑娘。七九年初，对越自卫反击战打响了，永亮和广大战友奔赴前线，积极参予对越作战。在一次攻坚战斗将要胜利结束时，一发罪恶的子弹击中了永亮......。The movie starts with the Sazer-X playing basketball.
