For DiMarco, the goal of the series is to show deaf people as humans, from all walks of life.。本剧以明朝晚期的“妖书案”、“诅咒案”、“梃击案”、“红丸案”、“移宫案”等几大疑案为线索，以立储、皇权交替为关键点，讲述了明朝万历、泰昌、天启年间二十年中围绕宫廷的权力斗争，表现出君臣、父子、夫妻、同僚在权力面前交错的党争关系及体现出来的复杂情感，描绘出明朝危在旦夕的夕阳晚景。。
