堂堂七尺男儿王伟是一个名不见经传的剧作家，他奋笔疾书，伏案写作，可是始终得不到业内的认可，生活自然也好不到哪去。早已成家的他和妻子杨丽云、女儿小木兰过着紧巴巴的日子，每月必须偿还的按揭让本来就不多的酬劳可怜紧迫，为了钱他可真是什么招儿都想到了，当然买彩票更成为王伟失败人生中最后的救命稻草。有道是祸不单行，某天王伟遭遇车祸，偏偏又是一出塞翁失马焉知非福的逆转戏码，从天而降的1200万足彩大奖不偏不倚砸到了王伟的脑袋上。 穷人乍富，惊喜过后的王伟开始打起了小算盘，他瞒着妻子拜托朋友李建平代领奖金，谁知好友则上演了黑吃黑的戏码……。An ambitious newspaper reporter (Dick Powell), eager to scoop the competition, wishes he could know the news before it happens.
