铃木饰演的主人公南云修司是在三重县立越山高中任教3年的社会课教师。虽然一直到大学都在打棒球，但因为受伤而隐退。大学中途退学后，他曾是一名体育教练，但由于无法放弃当教师的梦想，32岁时他再次进入大学，成为了一名教师。在度过教师生活的过程中，以当地大地主的孙子入学为契机，担任了即将废部的弱小棒球部的顾问，日常生活发生了翻天覆地的变化。。泽田家在岐阜县经营养鸡场，家里有三个姐妹花。大女儿泽田幸子（川村雪绘饰）马上就要结婚，二女儿泽田雪枝（岩佐真悠子饰）在美容院工作，小女儿泽田真弓（飞鸟凛饰）正读中学，生性活泼。然而，突如其来的惨剧将幸福的一家推入了深渊。雪枝过去的男朋友铃木因为妒火攻心，想要加害雪枝，不料却把硫酸误泼到了真弓脸上。深受伤害的真弓从此失去了笑容，两个姐姐陪伴在她身边不断鼓励她。 不久后，真弓学校的同学以及毕业生接连被杀，整个街区笼罩在恐怖的阴影之中……。'In Vitro' is an otherworldly rumination on memory, history, place and identity.
