本片的1955年版曾经在50年代的中国上映，改编自爱尔兰女作家伏尼契的同名小说，给整整一代的中国观众留下了难以磨灭的心灵冲击。影片以19世纪40年代的意大利为背景，描述了一个年轻的资产阶级革命者亚瑟，从幼稚到逐渐成熟。他与神学院的蒙泰里尼神父有情同父子的亲密关系，但随着一系列事件的磨练和战友的被出卖，他逐渐认识到宗教的伪善和邪恶，在他得知自己的生父竟然是蒙泰里尼神父时，充满了怨恨和痛苦，决定出走。13年后，意大利的自由革命运动风起云涌，一个代号为“牛虻”的革命领袖经常出其不意地出现，解救受难或被捕的革命同仁。他就是当年的亚瑟。后来牛虻不幸被叛徒出卖而被捕，在狱中他与生父蒙泰里尼神父相认，并希望父亲跟他一起投身革命，但遭到拒绝，牛虻英勇就义。。SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。
