在某城市里的一个院落里，住着两户人家。张家和李家是多年的邻居，两家生活在同一个屋檐下，有着深厚的感情，生活上有点麻烦也是互相帮助。但是，一起生活难免磕磕碰碰，两家之间总存着不大不小的矛盾。张大娘和张大爷常常抱怨李家人都是人精，碰不得惹不起同样的李家对张家的一些做法也颇有微词。两家人时而亲如一家，时而因一点鸡毛蒜皮的事儿就闹成一锅粥。。贝蒂一个人在酒吧里痛饮。一个医生把她送到偏僻的旅馆里，在那里他认识了老板的情人劳尔。两个女人互述衷肠，贝蒂讲述了自己的婚姻生活和自己的出轨……。Based on a true story of the American Civil War, culminating at the Battle of New Market, May 1864.
